New York City is made up of five boroughs located where the Hudson River meets the Atlantic Ocean. Manhattan, a densely populated borough at its heart, is one of the world’s major commercial, financial, and cultural centres. Its most famous landmarks include the Empire State Building and the sprawling Central Park. In 2017, more than 100,000 students from all over the world came to study in New York, which is 11% of all international students in the United States. New York is without a doubt one of the country’s most popular student cities. International students in New York can attend a variety of public colleges and universities within the State University of New York (SUNY) or City University of New York (CUNY) systems. The SUNY system consists of four university centres (University of Albany, Binghamton University, University of Buffalo, and Stony Brook University) as well as more than 60 community, technical, and undergraduate colleges and universities. The SUNY system is the nation’s largest public higher education system, with some of the best schools in the Northeast.
