Brno is the Czech Republic’s second-largest city and the largest city in the historical Moravian region. Founded around the year 1000, the city served as one of the region’s historical capitals and is now home to many institutions related to Moravian history and culture. At the same time, Brno is the administrative centre of the modern South Moravian Region, as well as the seat of the republic’s judicial system. Brno, with a population of around 380,000 people, is located in a beautiful natural setting between South Moravian vineyards and the Moravian Karst and is a short drive from the Austrian border.
Brno is one of the top ten best student cities in the world, according to the highly regarded Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) rankings. Brno was ranked sixth in a survey of nearly 90,000 students and recent graduates, ahead of cities such as Prague and London. Brno is an excellent place to live. It caters to every student’s needs by being neither too big nor too small, affordable, full of exciting opportunities, lively events, or hidden cafés to spend a lazy afternoon in. Furthermore, education in Brno is very inexpensive. The cost of living is low, as are the prices of programs, and financing one’s studies is not a problem thanks to various scholarships and the ability to work part-time with a student visa.
